A 1 1/2 hp Hornsby Ackroyd engine was returned to the shed where it was originally installed in 1904 at Tuggeranong Homestead. It drove a pump until the early 1970's supplying water from the nearby creek to the house ,garden and stock. The engine is a hotbulb style, burning kerosene. Prior to starting a blowlamp(kerosene) heated the hotbulb (in the cylinder head) to vaporise the fuel and allow combustion. Moving the 800KG unit was made possible by the generosity of David Green who provided a bobcat and excavator to gently manovure things on to the original holding bolts. The CDHEC club thanks David for his help. This engine will be running during The club Rally at Tuggeranong Homestead on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 March. Come and see it and hundreds of other engines plus vintage tractors being put through their paces.
